Vija Pakalkaite is PhD graduate at the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations, Central European University (CEU), in Budapest. She holds a Major in Public Policy and a Minor in Social Science Methodology. Vija received a Master of Arts in Economic Policy in Global Markets at the same university in 2012. She also has a Master of Science degree in Economics and a Bachelor in Communications from Vilnius University in Lithuania.
Before coming to Hungary in 2010, Vija had worked as an economic journalist in Lithuanian business media for nearly six years.
During her studies at CEU, Vija worked at the Bank of Lithuania on the country’s euro adoption and was a trainee in the cabinet of Maroš Šefčovič, the Vice-President of the European Commission, in charge of the Energy Union. She was a visiting researcher at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and Fraunhofer-Institut für System- und Innovationsforschung (ISI).
Vija‘s current main research interests are energy policy and security of supply, especially in the natural gas markets of the EU. Vija also researches the electricity sector, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the post-2020 reform of it.
