Markus Pollak is a provisional Ph.D. candidate at the Doctoral School of Political Science at Central European University.
He is interested in research on liberal ordering, norm contestation, and democracy promotion. His research project focuses on contestation of international election observation, parallel election observers and the political sociology of the election observation field.
Markus is also an active election observer, most recently having served on the OSCE-ODIHR missions in Kazakhstan (2022), Uzbekistan (2023), and Serbia (2023). While at the University of Vienna he was a research assistant for the Austrian Corona Panel Project (ACPP) for two years. Previously, he worked in various roles for NGOs (YFU, The Guild), international organizations (UNESCO), and government (Austrian MFA) in Vienna, Buenos Aires, Paris, Brussels, and Vilnius. He speaks German, English, Spanish, and French.
