Philipp Thaler defended his PhD in December 2015. Previously, he was a PhD Candidate in the Public Policy track of the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations at CEU. He is interested in policy- and decision-making processes in EU foreign policy areas. His PhD project was supervised by Prof Uwe Puetter and investigated the coordination of EU foreign policy areas, in particular EU energy security and human rights policies towards Russia. Further research interests include energy policy, the EU Energy Union initiative, bargaining/negotiations, the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Council and European Studies at large.
Besides the PhD, Philipp holds a MSc degree in European Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a BA degree in European Studies from Maastricht University. He has more than five years of working experience in the energy sector as an Energy Consultant for Siemens and in the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy. Morever, Philipp has lectured Bachelor and Master students at Maastricht University and CEU. At CEU, Philipp is currently co-chairing the Energy Policy Research Group (EPRG).
