SOS Children’s Village Hungary has started to implement its Refugee Program in December 2015. We mainly concentrate on supporting  families and unaccompanied minors, asylum seekers and protected refugees as well. We have provided donations and pediatrician services for families and children waiting at the Serbian-Hungarian border in the front of the Transit Zones. We have supported the same target groups in reception centers (Bicske, Vámosszabadi) with child friendly space, psychological support, intercultural mediation, interpretation, medical services. Since all asylum seekers are detained (28th March 2017) we cannot continue these activities. We still work at the Fót children’s center where unaccompanied minors are placed at. Our integration team supports protected families with complex social work and we provide Hungarian lessons for migrant children at the Than Károly School. We also recruit and train foster parents to become SOS mothers/fathers of unaccompanied minors, especially for the most vulnerable groups (under 12, girls, etc.).
