Record Number of PhD Students Graduate in 2016

May 27, 2016

An unprecedented number of PhD students are expected to graduate this year at CEU’s PhD program in Political Science. With over 20 doctoral students defending their dissertations in 2016, the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations celebrates a new record of program completion.

A total number of 21 PhD students are expected to finish their studies at CEU’s PhD Program in Political Science in the 2015-2016 academic year, marking CEU’s Silver Anniversary with a new record of program completion. Never before in the history of the PhD Program did the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations have such a high number of fresh graduates, as in this year’s Graduation Ceremony at the Hungarian Palace of Arts, on 25 June.

Among the 21 PhD graduates there are students from each track of the doctoral program.  The Doctoral School can salute to outstanding supervisory achievements, as some of our faculty members have supervised multiple graduating students this year. CEU’s Provost, Liviu Matei and Political Science department’s professor Gabor Toka both supervised three proud PhD graduates in this academic year, which is an outstanding achievement in the program’s history. They are followed by International Relations department head’s Matteo Fumagalli and SPP’s Uwe Puetter, who both have two graduating supervisees in 2016.

In the past two years the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations had 13 graduates annually, while in previous years the number of graduating PhD students at the School was below 10, showing that this year’s number represent an extraordinary achievement both for the School’s students and for its faculty.

The list of the 2016 PhD graduates can be found on the Doctoral School’s website, where the defended dissertations can also be read at full length. You can join the Doctoral School in celebrating its fresh graduates by following the 2016 Graduation Ceremony on 25 June via CEU’s live video stream, or by attending the Graduation Party that follows the Graduation Ceremony in the evening.
